Wilderness Life Support (WLS) is a two day first aid course designed for outdoor adventure seekers with no formal medical training. It provides an introduction to Wilderness Medicine, including victim assessment, first aid for common injuries and illness encountered in the wild, and victim evacuation protocols. It is the perfect first aid course for outdoorsmen and women.

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Accredited by the University of Utah School of Medicine

  • The class will include indoor lectures, outdoor group sessions (weather pending), and workshops on splinting, wound management, patient transport, etc.

  • Instructor: Jon Solberg, MD

    Dr Solberg is a military trained, board certified emergency medicine physician who works in Bismarck, ND. He has been named Fellow in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine and cared for patients in austere environments ranging from equatorial Africa to the Arctic to a combat support hospital in Afghanistan.   • Guest instructor: Justin Reisenauer, MD

    Dr. Reisenauer is a board certified emergency physician who works in Bismarck, ND. He is an aviation medical examiner, instrument rated pilot, and outdoor adventurer. Follow Dr. Reisenauer on Facebook here.

Students are expected to be familiar with the information presented in the textbook before the course begins. The final test will consist of multiple choice questions from the lectures, workshops, and the textbook.

Graduates will receive a certificate by mail.
