TV Interview: From North Dakota to the Arctic, Dr. Jon Solberg on Driving Across Greenland
Published: Sep. 16, 2026 at 6:58 PM CDT
From the North Dakota plains to the harsh Arctic ice, Dr. Jon Solberg recently joined KFYR-TV to share the story of a lifetime: a grueling, month-long expedition attempting to become the first humans to drive across Greenland from south to north.
Ending just 600 miles shy of the North Pole—the furthest northern dirt on Earth ever reached by a motor vehicle—the journey required navigating severe weather, mechanical breakdowns, and intense isolation without maps or gas stations.
"I have been on lots of international expeditions from Alaska to South America and deployed in the army to Afghanistan and just really enjoy traveling and taking care of people as they travel through interesting environments," Solberg said.
Eight years later, the team's newly released documentary captures the cutthroat thrill and the vital leadership required when everything goes wrong. Navigating these extreme conditions demands absolute team civility, clear communication, and mental resilience.
Learn the foundational rules of leadership under pressure in Dr. Solberg's book, "Check your own pulse first: Hard Lessons in Hard Places; written by an ex-army and expedition doctor." Available now.
