RMI Remote First Aid Kit ($550)

RMI is a Seattle based company working globally to provide customers with medical support services in remote environments.  They have been a fun company to follow over the years and have grown from a living room filled with equipment to a multi-million dollar company.  Recently, they were recognized as one of the 500 fastest growing companies in the United States.

The RMI Remote First Aid Kit is one of the most complete first aid kits I’ve ever reviewed, as reflected in its hefty price tag.  This kit’s contents are also vacuum sealed into easily identifiable “procedure packs” and held in place inside the kit with elastic cords.  This kit contains the most complete solution to basic sick-call needs, including pain relievers, medications for coughs and colds and allergies, antacids and antidiarrheals, ani-emetics (anti-nausea), anti-fungal cream, anti-itch cream, electrolyte replacement tablets, ear drops, sunscreen, lip balm, and as a nice personal touch, some fiber supplements for constipation and a handful of tampons and condoms.  This kit will help you close a wound in hospital fashion, firmly splint an orthopedic injury, as well as control life-threatening hemorrhage and penetrating chest wounds.  The tools are also top notch: a Petzyl micro headlamp, a pulse oximeter for measuring oxygen saturation and heart rate, a thermometer, a full sized hypothermia wrap, eye wash solution, and a mini-trauma shear.

This is the kit I want in my vehicle in the unfortunate event that either a friend or I become injured.  There is truly $550 of good stuff in here, and you would be hard pressed to assemble it yourself in such a convenient package for a better price.  This universally wins the Editor’s Choice Award.

Pros:

  • Good sick-call coverage

  • Treats nearly all life-threatening injuries

  •  Excellent instruments and diagnostic capabilities

Cons:

  • Cost

  •  No Manual

This kit won my Editor’s Choice award in a recent outdoors magazine. Read about it here:
